With the rush for riches came waves of people to Alaska and large-scale infrastructure built in haste. Boomtowns sprung up, only to be abandoned in a few years as individuals and corporations extracted resources and then moved on to other places. The land began the long process of reclaiming main streets and storefronts. We now have an opportunity to embrace the history of these boomtowns and create new futures that have strong connections to both community and nature.

Remote and Connected in Valdez

Nestled in the Chugach Mountains overlooking Robe Lake, the Geeks in Valdez property is located just 10 miles outside of downtown Valdez and 20 miles away from the summit of the iconic Thompson Pass. The former Gold Rush town is located at the head of a fjord on the eastern side of Prince William Sound. This is home base for everything you've ever dreamed of seeing and doing in Alaska!

Our premier location on Robe Lake combined with first class amenities make it the perfect destination for working remotely and connected. Imagine a sweeping 20 acre property with waterfront access to stunning 2.2 mile long Robe Lake, surrounded by jagged peaks and incredible scenery. We’ve got a dock for summertime activities like swimming, kayaking, or soaking up the midnight sun’s rays. Come winter, the lake freezes over, providing easy snow machine access to skiable terrain just across the way.

Thanks to local communication co-op Copper Valley Telecom, the property is connected to fiber optic internet reaching speeds of 1 gig with low latency. We integrate high speed Internet by providing mesh wifi throughout the property and deploying smart-connected devices to make your remote and connected experience the best it can be.

Camp and Colloborate at Geeks in McCarthly property, Alaska

Camp and Code in McCarthy

Our property in McCarthy is a daring journey into the big unknown of America’s largest national park. The Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a spectacular environment with vast mountainous terrain dominated by glaciers and riven with furious meltwater. Just like Valdez, McCarthy is also an end-of-the-road town. The fabled bush town exists deep inside the stunning national park, with the property surrounded by land owned by the National Park Service.

The Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 drew prospectors deep into the Wrangell-St.Elias region. But it would be copper, not gold, that panned out. The deposit of copper was so immense that it was declared a "bonanza"! The construction of the Bonanza Mine created the nearby town of Kennecott - home to a historic 14-story copper mill.

The Geeks in McCarthy property is located 1.5 miles up the Bonanza trail. The property has spectacular views overlooking Root Glacier and Kennicott Glacier. The immense glacier-carved valley leads to towering Mount Blackburn, the principal source of ice for the Kennicott Glacier which flows southeast over 20 miles to just above the town of McCarthy.

We do not have any official development plans for this property. We plan on enjoying its raw environment with geeks that want to work extremely remote and connected. While the Valdez property is available for use year-round, this property outside of McCarthy is only available for use from April to October due to inaccessibility and limited amenities.
